Waveney Valley Athletic Club had 23 members competing in the second fixture of the Suffolk Winter Cross Country League, which was hosted by Woodbridge Shufflers at Sutton.

The course at Sutton proved to be very deceptive, although mainly flat, runners had to tackle a mixed terrain consisting of farmland, sandy sections and muddy footpaths. The sandy sections proved to be particularly demanding, as the sand was very soft

Joe Skipper who as youngster competed for Waveney Valley on the track as well as at cross country, made a welcome return to the league, in putting in a very strong performance in coming in 2nd place overall in the speedy time of 31:43. Close on his heels was Dominic Oliver who clinched 1st place in the U.20”s in finishing in 4th place overall. Bill Kingaby is getting back to full fitness and put in a improved performance in clocking 40:10 for 85th place, which earned him 1st place in the V60 category.

In the ladies section Rose Nicholson continues to impress in taking 2nd spot in the ladies section and 1st in the senior ladies section in clocking 36:16 in 37th place overall. The Ladies A team of Rose, Catherine and Dawn once again finished in 2nd place to maintain their 2nd place in the league, just 15 points adrift of the leaders St. Edmund Pacers.

In the junior section, Tai Elvin-Andrews was the first home for the club, in finishing in 11th place in the under 13 section in clocking 16:04. Samuel Stephens making his debut in cross-country running was not far behind in 13th place in the same age group. Harriet Lyman was in good form in finishing in 5th place in the girls 13 section with her time of 16:35.
