The hectic spring schedule of road races has kept members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club very busy in recent weeks. At race 1 of the Great Yarmouth 5-mile prom series, 23 members were in action with at least a dozen running personal best times. For many it was also their first races beyond the 5k parkrun distance.

At the Milton Keynes Marathon on Bank Holiday May 1, Becky Langford achieved her sixth personal best time from her last seven races. She finished 335th from more than 2,000 runners, in a time of 3-34.51.On the same day, there were pb’s also for Alan and Jayne Richardson at the Breckland 10k. Alan crossed the finish line in 121st place in 49:15 and Jayne was 206th in 57:46.
On Sunday, a dozen members travelled to Dereham for a 10-mile race, which was the 4th event in this
year’s Leathes Prior Norfolk Grand Prix Series. First home for Waveney was Mike Quantrill in a new best time of 1-11.59 followed by Wayne Freeman in 1-14.20. David Mower, 142nd, was just four seconds outside his best time, finishing in 1-15.46 then Bill Kingaby was 161st in 1-17.20, winning the 3rd place trophy in his age group .Alan Richardson was 205th in a personal best 1-21.58 and Sarah Norman, 217th, took almost 10 minutes off her previous best, recording a time of 1-23.06. Camilla Darling was 307th in 1-31.44, Vicky Wood 319th in 1-33.26, Louise Adamson 322nd in 1-33.26, Alan Varle 352nd in 1-37.27, Demelza Hammond 358th in 1-38.41 (pb) and Beth Bell 388th in 1-45.20.
