On Thursday evening, athletes from Waveney Valley Athletic Club competed at Gt Yarmouth & District ACs performance meeting at the Wellesley Road track.
Michaela Gooch, Alan Fairs and Steve competed for the seniors with Hazel Fairs, Maisie Elvin-Andrews, Brooke Oram, Joel Burgess, Benjamin Cone, Grace Forster and Shamara Hammonds competing in the U11 category, Harriet Gooch, Tai Elvin-Andrews, Mia, Callum and Hannah Mayne competing in the U13 category and Charlotte Gooch, Georgia Fairs, Kieran Covill, Shannon Hall, Owen Besford and Emily Turner competing in the U15 category.
Although there were periods of rain, there were many smiles on the night as lots of PBs were set over the track events of 80m, 100m, 200m, 800m and 1 mile, and the long jump and javelin in the field. Setting PBs and putting into practice the training undertaken at the Club on Monday and Thursday evenings at East Point Academy was what the meeting was all about. A notable PB was from Kieran Covill who took 0.5 seconds from his 100m time to record a new PB of 12.5s.
Hannah Mayne then followed this meeting up on Bank Holiday Monday at the Southend-on-Sea Athletic Club track and field championships and open at Garon Park. On a very hot and sunny afternoon, Hannah came 6th in long jump setting a new PB of 3.77m. The competition in the sprints was really stiff, so Hannah was delighted to finish 3rd in the 100m race with a new PB of 14.24s, then competing in the 200m finishing 4th but recording her 3rd PB of the meeting in a time of 30.34s.
