Bungay 10K (race 3) Worstead 5 Mile & Parkruns

Eight members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club competed in the third and final race in this years Bungay Evening 10k series.
From a field of 134 athletes, Tim Earl was first home for Waveney in a time of 41:48, in 23rd place. Bill Kingaby finished 34th in 43:28 and second in his age group in each of the three races in the series.
David Mower recorded a fine personal best time of 45:38, in 50th place. Duncan Carter ran a time of 47:57, in 59th, just a few seconds down on his time in race two while Colin Maxwell beat his previous best time by almost half a minute with 48:59, in 66th place.
Steve Gibbs was placed 78th in 50:15, Louise Adamson 92nd in 52:29 and Stuart Smith 108th in 55:49.

At the Worstead 5-mile event on July 25, Louise Riches, in her debut race for Waveney Valley, finished 234th from 358 runners, in a time of 44:17 with Stuart Smith 262nd in 45:57.

On July 26, another new member, Anna Sharp, competed in her first race for Waveney, at the Fritton Lake 5k parkrun and recorded a time of 36:16. In last Saturdays race at Fritton, Mark T. Colman finished in a time of 27:18.

Bungay 10K (race 2) Humpty Dumpty & Copenhagen

Nine members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club competed in race two of the Bungay 10k evening summer series. The dry weather was ideal for road running with hardly any breeze to hamper athletes attempts to achieve their targeted times.
120 runners completed the race with Bill Kingaby first to finish for the club in 26th place in a time of 42:59. David Mower was 52nd in 47:00, Duncan Carter 55th in 47:33 and Steve Gibbs 57th in 47:55. Peter Laurence, in his first 10k race, finished 68th in 49:24, Colin Maxwell was 49th in 49:26, Joe Mayne 71st in 49:34, new member Louise Adamson 88th in 51:38 and Stuart Smith 100th in 55:05.
Last Sunday the Humpty Dumpty 10k, organised by Great Yarmouth and District A.C. was held in challenging conditions for runners and spectators alike as torrential rain lasted throughout the race. The 392 runners splashed their way around the country roads of Freethorpe and Reedham with Bill Kingaby never the less finishing in a very pleasing time of 42:54, in 85th place overall, and was awarded second prize in the mens 60-64 age group. In just her second race of this year, Becky Langford was placed 256th in a time of 52:05.

Vladimir Laptikhovsky took part in the Copenhagen Nykredit Marathon recently and recorded a personal best time of 4-33.19

East Anglian League, Round 4, Bury St Edmunds, 17/08/14

Last Sunday saw athletes from the Club compete in the final East Anglian League fixture of the season in Bury St Edmunds. Cool windy conditions saw the Clubs athletes compete against those from West Suffolk AC who hosted the event, along with CoNAC, Southend, Braintree and Colchester & Tendring AC. With the fixture being scheduled two weeks earlier than previous seasons, Waveney had a much smaller squad travelling than the other larger Clubs, but still managed to be competitive, with the boys U15 team the pick from the Club on the day.

Usually with around ten U13 boys competing for Waveney, Callum Hopson was the sole Waveney boy available competing in the 200m, 800m, and long jump. Callum recorded 29.1s in the 200m, 4.16m in the LJ, and 2:41.4s in the 800m for a fantastic 2nd place.

The U15 boys saw Mason Hodds making his debut for Waveney alongside James Russell, Leon Cousins and Aidan Hewitt. In the 100m, Aidan recorded a new PB of 12.5s, with Mason just a tenth behind with 12.6s, The 200m saw both boys record times of 25.9s for 2nd places in their respective heats, with Aidan recording 43.7s in the 300m to Mason’s 44.2s. James and Leon competed in the high jump, with bests of 1.40m and 1.30m respectively – a new PB for Leon. They both competed in the long jump with leaps of 4.59m and 3.97 respectively, with Leon also in action in the triple jump with 9.27m. James recorded a throw of 7.69m in the shot put to round his individual events off. The boys performed well in the relay, despite some time lost in the changeovers for a 2nd place finish in 53.2s and a new Club record.

Gary Elvin, Simon Bunting and Alan Fairs made up the senior mens team, with PBs aplenty for Gary with 12.5s in the 100m, 1.45m in the high jump despite very difficult conditions, 8.29m in the shot put (2nd place), 24.92 discus (3rd), 15.57m in the hammer and 32.58m in the javelin. Alan recorded 13:55.3 in the 3000m, 3.28m long jump, 21.16m javelin and 11.43 in the hammer, with Simon recording throws of 7.20m shot put (2nd place in ‘B’ comp) and 13.48 in the discus.

The U13 girls, saw Harriet Gooch, Ellysia Bendall and Mia Hopson in action with the latter two competing well in the 100m despite the strong winds, with times of 14.9s and 17.7s, with Mia also running the 200m in 29.9s and the 70mh, the first race of the day, in 13.6s. Harriet and Elly recorded throws of 5.94m and 4.58m respectively in the shot put with Harriet also registering 11.45m in the discus and 15.67 in the javelin for a new PB.

Just Emily Archbold and Harriet Lyman were available for the U15 girls, with Emily recording 14.3s in the 100m, a PB equalling 1.35m in the high jump for 2nd place, and 4.00m in the long jump. Harriet registered 53.2s in the 300m, 2:53.6 in the 800m and a PB of 1.25m in the high jump.

The senior ladies saw mother and daughter Vicki and Frances Fairs competing, along with Tracy Cone in the field events. The long jump saw Frances jump 3.29m with Tracy 3.13m with Frances also recording 7.71m in the shot put just missing out on 3rd place to Vicki’s 5.45m. Frances recorded a throw of 20.24m in the discus to Vicki’s 11.62m, with Frances also throwing 12.19m in the hammer, and Tracy 11.00m in the javelin.

There was a bigger U11 squad, with Shamara Hammonds, Maddie Archbold, Libby Mayall and Hazel Fairs for the girls, and Finn Howes, Joel Burgess, Jacob Bendall, Benjamin Cone and Tom Spurgeon (in his club debut) for the boys. Shamara’s 12.2s in the 80m to Joel’s 12.6s were the Club’s best, with Shamara also recording 2:17.9s in the 600m to Joel’s 1:59.1s. The long jump saw Shamara jump 3.22m to Joel’s 3.10m and the shot put saw Hazel throw 4.21m to Tom’s 3.73m. The windy conditions meant it was not a day for PB’s in the 600m U11 category, but all the youngsters performed very well.

Club Championships, 28/06/14 and 03/07/14

Club records were broken and personal bests aplenty last week when Waveney Valley AC held their inaugural Club Championships for their Junior members. The thriving Junior’s, boasting over 80 members over the past year since re-starting just under 2 years ago, competed their athletics championships in warm sunny conditions at East Point Academy in Lowestoft.
The under 11s competed an 80m sprint, 600m run, long jump and howler throw to identify the best in each event, and an overall winner across the events. The under 13s and under 15s likewise competed, but across a ‘super 7’ of 100m, 200m (U15 300m), 800m (U15 1500m), long jump, high jump, javelin and shot put.
All events were keenly contested in each age group, with just 3 points separating the top 2 girls in the U11 championship, and top 2 boys in the U13 championship.
In the U11 girls category, Grace Forster was Club Champion with 185 points, closely followed by Shamara Hammonds with 182 points and Brooke Oram 3rd with 170 points. Grace achieved a new Club long jump record with a leap of 3.52m, with Brooke setting a Club record with a howler throw of 30.96m. Shamara won the 75m with a PB of 12.4s, and Grace the 600m with a time of 2.06s.
For the U11 boys, Theo Hudson was Club Champion with 240 points, followed by Reuben Harvey with 200 points and Isaac Phillips 3rd with 192 points. Theo won all 4 events, recording Club records in the process with a long jump leap of 3.55m, howler throw of 35.70m, and PBs in the 75m of 12.0s and 600m of 2.06s.
The U13 girls saw a dominant Mia Hopson Club Champion with 308 points, with Harriet Gooch 2nd, and Maisie Howes 3rd. Club records again fell, with Mia recording an 800m time of 2.59s, Harriet a shot put of 6.22m, and Mia and Harriet both recording jumps of 1.00m in the high jump. Mia also won the 100m in 14.6s, 200m in 30.8s and javelin with a throw of 14.72m.
The keenly contested U13 boys saw Callum Hopson crowned as Club Champion with a haul of 333 points, closely followed by Tai Elvin-Andrews with 330 points, and Alec Wilson in 3rd with 291 points. Callum registered a Club record in the 200m with a run of 29.5s, and he also won the javelin with a throw and PB of 19.70m. The 100m was won by Ben Newman in a time of 15.1s, the shot put was won by Dylan Harvey with a throw and PB of 6.11m, with Tai Elvin-Andrews winning the 800m in a time of 2.40s and the high jump on count back from Callum and Alec with a jump of 1.15m.
The U15 girls Club Champion was Emily Archbold with338 points, withHarriet Lyman 2nd with 306 points, and Lauren Oram 3rd with 218 points. Club records were set by Harriet in the 300m with a run of 48.6s and 1500m with a time of 6:15s and also the javelin with a throw of 15.19m. Emily set new records in the long jump with 4.17m, and shot put with a throw of 7.36m. Emily also won the 100m with a run of 14.7s, and high jump with 1.25m.
Jake Block was U15 boys Club Champion with 419 points, followed by Aidan Hewitt with 396 points, and James Russell 3rd with 359 points. Jake recorded three Club records – 1500m with 5:57s, shot put with 8.81m and javelin with 27.39m. He also won the long jump with a PB of 4.49m, and 100m in a time of 13.5s. James set a new Club record in the high jump with 1.45m, with Aidan winning the long jump with a PB of 4.49m.
While the results were being finalised, the male and female coach’s and male and female parents teams had a 4x 100m relay race, with the men’s coach’s finishing victorious!
On conclusion all under 11 athletes were presented with a ‘Quadkids’ certificate with their points performance total entered, and all events winners were presented a medal.
There were photo opportunities for the Club Champions and 2nd and 3rd finishers, who received the perpetual shields and medals on the winners podiums.

East Anglian League, Round 2, Gt Yarmouth, 08/06/14

Sunday saw hot and sunny conditions at the Wellesley Track in Gt Yarmouth where Waveney Valley Athletic Club travelled for round 2 of the East Anglian Athletics League to compete against City of Norwich AC, West Norfolk, West Suffolk, Colchester and Tendring and Gt Yarmouth & District AC.

Waveney took in excess of 40 athletes to contest the fixture, Building on a solid round 1 score of 210 points for the team, in this fixture, Waveney improved to score 266 points overall which was enough for 5th place, a fine result with no U17s and only limited seniors competing. Waveney faired much better in the individual categories, with the under 13 girls placed 3rd with 59 points and just 11 points from 2nd placed Gt Yarmouth (an improvement from 4th in round one) which was matched by the under 15 boys with 54 points who were also just 11 points from Gt Yarmouth in 2nd. The under 13 boys were placed 4th with 59 points also 11 points from a place improvement, with the under 15 girls 5th with 46 points, the men 6th with 16 points and the ladies 6th with 32 points, just a point behind West Norfolk.

The under 11s compete as ‘non-scorers’, with 6 girls and 5 boys representing the club. Maisie Elvin-Andrews, Grace Forster, Maddie Archbold, Brooke Oram, Libby Mayall and Shamara Hammonds pulled on the vest for the girls with Joel Burgess, Theo Hudson, Jacob Bendall, Benjamin Cone and Reuben Harvey competing for the boys in the events of 80 metres, 600 metres, shot put and long jump.

In the girls under 13 category, just Harriet Gooch, Hannah Mayne, Ellysia Bendall and Mia Hopson completed the team and ended the day with 3rd place overall and 2nd in the relay. Hannah again won 100m (13.6s – PB), 200m (29.0s) and Long Jump, whilst Harriet recorded a PB in her 100m race with 15.1s, and 3rd place in the shot put with 5.52m. Mia ran a great 200m to record a PB of 30.0s and 2nd place, with 2nd also in the hurdles and a 3rd in the javelin with 13.61m. Elly won the ‘B’ shot put with a throw of 4.71m.

The under 15 girls were represented by Harriet Lyman, Lily Collins, Emily Archbold and Lauren Oram. It was difficult conditions for both Harriet and Lauren in the 800m with times of 2:50.9s and 3:01.1s respectively, but Lauren performing in the discus for the first time, won with a throw of 16.08m. Emily equalled her PB of 1.35m in the high jump for 3rd, with Lily winning the ‘B’ javelin. The girls claimed 5th in the relay.

A larger under 13 boys team saw Ethan Lee, Callum Hopson, Sam Stevens, Leo Joscelyne, Tai Elvin-Andrews, Alec Wilson, Tom Carter, Jamie Besford and Dylan Harvey competing with PBs again tumbling all round. There was many notable track improvements and PBs with Tai performing particularly well in the 1500m in the heat with a 3rd place and time of 5:21.5s. He also claimed a PB and 2nd in the high jump with 1.25m. Dylan performed well in the shot, discus and javelin throwing for the first time with admirable results. Both boys relay teams competed in tough races.

The under 15 boys were represented by Jake Block, Leon Cousins, Dylan Davies, James Russell and Aidan Hewitt. Jake again ran a good 200m for 3rd place in 26.7s, with Aidan also again running a great 300m for 3rd in 43.2s. James competing for Waveney for the first time, claimed 2nd in the high jump with a PB and club record of 1.40m. The boys ran a fast relay to claim 3rd in a club record 54.1s.

The Ladies were represented by Karen Archbold, Michaela Gooch, Caren Elvin, Tracy Cone, Yvette Hammonds, Tamsin Desborough and Mia Williams-Mather with Simon Bunting, Bill Kingaby and Andrew Brown the compact Mens team. The ladies relay team improved upon their Norwich performance with a club record run, and for the men, Simon competed well in the throws, and was pleased to break the 3m barrier in the long jump with 3.08m, with Bill just 0.2s over 12 minutes in the 3000m. Andrew recorded 2:48.7 in the 800m.

Suffolk and Norfolk County Championships, 25/05/14

Waveney Valley Athletic Clubs athletes competed in warm and sunny conditions last Sunday at the Suffolk County Championships in Ipswich, and the Norfolk County Championships in Norwich.

Four under 11 athletes travelled to Norwich to compete against under 11s from across Norfolk to identify the best over 60m and 600m. Shamara Hammonds and Grace Forster competed for the girls, with Shamara collecting a bronze medal in the 60m with a run of 9.9s, and Grace 4th in 10.1s, with Grace also picking up a bronze in the 600m. For the boys Joel Burgess and Benjamin Cone competed, with Joel also collecting a bronze in the 60m with a time of 9.6s, with Benjamin performing well in the 600m in a time of 2.06.9s and a determination to get below the 2 minute mark over the season.

In the Suffolk County Championships, Waveney Valley’s eight competing athletes excelled, finishing the day with six county titles, including a county record, a further silver and seven bronze medals for an outstanding days athletics.

The under 13 girls saw Hannah Mayne, Mia Hopson and Harriet Gooch competing against Suffolk’s best. Hannah Mayne recorded a hatrick of titles, winning the 100m in a PB of 13.7s, the 200m in a PB of 28.5s, and the long jump with a PB, Club and County record of 4.79m. Mia also took a County title in the 70m hurdles, and a bronze in the javelin, with Harriet collecting a bronze in the shot put.

Tai Elvin-Andrews, Jamie Besford, Callum Hopson and Alec Wilson competed in the under 13 boys category with Tai Elvin-Andrews celebrating his birthday in style with a County title in the high jump with a new PB of 1.15m, narrowly missing out on a jump of 1.20m. Tai also collected a bronze in a large and strong 1500m race which also included Alec, recording a time of 5.23s and another PB, and another bronze in the 75m hurdle. Jamie continued his fine 800m running, controlling the race from start to finish to take the County title with a run of 2.31.5s. He also collected a bronze in the long jump with a jump and PB of 3.61m. Callum also found success in the long jump with a leap of 3.97m to claim silver, and in the 200m recording a time of 30.7 to take bronze.

Emily Archbold was the lone Waveney Valley athlete at under 15 level, but undeterred, she competed in the high jump, recording a PB and equalling the Club record with a jump of 1.35m to take a bronze medal.

Inter-Club Tournament, R2, T&F, Gt Yarmouth, 11/05/14

It was a windy and rainy scene for Round 2 of the Inter-Club tournament last Sunday at the Wellesley Athletics Track in Gt Yarmouth where Waveney Valley AC’s athletes competed against those from Gt Yarmouth & District AC, Framlingham Flyers and Bungay Black Dog RC. Over 30 Waveney athletes competed over a sprint, middle distance, long jump and a throw to identify the top athletes on a points basis over the four disciplines.

In 2nd place after round one’s road race, Waveney had eight U11 girls competing with Waveney’s best on the day Abeni Beckham who finished 2nd out of 21 girls. She was closely followed by Maddie Archbold in 4th, Grace Forster 5th, Shamara Hammonds 7th and Farren Turner 8th. The rest of the team included Libby Mayall, Maisie Elvin-Andrews, and Amy Catchpole.

Seven U11 Waveney boys competed against a field of 22, with Waveney also in 2nd place after round one. Again Waveney’s best was placed 2nd overall with Joel Burgess, who was followed closely by Theo Hudson in 3rd and Reuben Harvey in 5th, with Benjamin Cone, Vaughan Beckham, Finn Howes and Oscar Taylor completing the team. Reuben briefly held the Club record in the ‘Howler’ throw, but was quickly beaten by Theo with a throw of 31.45m

The U13 girls sat in 3rd place after round one, mainly due to a partial team, with again only 4 girls available for this fixture. Harriet Lyman was the top Waveney girl finishing 2nd in a field of 19, with Mia 4th, Hannah Mayne 6th and Harriet Gooch 9th. Hannah was just a fraction off her own 100m Club record with a run of 13.8s.

The U13 boys, in 1st place after round one again performed very strongly with 9 boys competing against a field of 17 with Waveney taking the top 4 places – Callum followed by Jamie Besford, Tai Elvin-Andrews and Leo Joscelyne with Alec Wilson following in 7th place, and Dylan Harvey, Pierre Stohr and Daniel Goldspink completing the team.

Waveney also had six U15’s competing individually – Lily Collins, Lauren Oram, Dylan Davies, Aidan Hewitt, Lewis Covill and Jake Block with some particularly strong running in very difficult conditions. Round’s 3 and 4, a cross-country and Sportshall will take place in the Autumn and Winter with the overall individuals and clubs crowned across the 4 events.

Great Yarmouth 5 Miles (Race 3) & Halstead & Essex Mararathon

Ten members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club were part of a 240 strong field at the third and final race in this years Great Yarmouth 5 mile promenade series which was held in stormy conditions with heavy rain towards the latter stages of the race.
Four members ended the series recording personal best times, Patricia Tuttle, David Goosey and new members this year Peter Lawrence and Paul Grant. WVAC results – 31 Chris Pimlott 31:26, 44 Tim Earl 32:35, 64 Bill Kingaby 34:14 ( 2nd prize M60 – 64 ), 90 David Mower 36:13, 101 Steve Gibbs 37:12, 110 Peter Lawrence 38:18 pb, 136 David Goosey 39:19 pb, 143 Paul Grant 39:45 pb, 168 Joe Mayne 41:53, 169 Patricia Tuttle 41:54 pb.

At the Halstead & Essex Marathon on May 11, Tim Earl finished in 48th place out of 535 entrants. On an undulating course he recorded 3-15.21, one of his best times over the marathon distance.

Great Yarmouth 5 Miles (Race 2) & Dereham 10 Miles

Race two of the Gt Yarmouth 5-mile promenade road race series produced a number of personal best times from Waveney Valley Athletic Club members.
David Mower’s performance really stood out with an improvement of almost a minute and his time of 35:35 secured him his first diamond standard age-graded run. He finished 92nd and, like race one, was placed third in his age group, just outside the race prizes.
There were commendable p.b’s also from Peter Lawrence, 161st in 39:56 and Patricia Tuttle, 187th in 42:25.
Bill Kingaby led the team home, finishing 71st in 34:29 and was awarded second prize in his age group. Stephen Gibbs was 121st in 37:54, Joe Mayne 135th in 38:40, David Goosey 188th in 42:26 and Stuart Smith 198th in 43:36. Around 250 runners started the race, which was selected as a fixture of the Runners Centre Grand Prix series, ensuring a strong entry from club runners throughout the region.

Bill Kingaby and David Mower were back in action a few days later, racing in the Dereham 10 mile event last weekend. In a field of 279 runners – in which many were competing for awards in the Norfolk County 10 mile championships – Kingaby finished 73rd in 1-12.53 and won the trophy for third place in the Mens 60-64 age group.
Mower finished 113th, recording a time of 1-16.51, which was another personal best for him of more than two minutes. Having also run a new best time at the Fritton Lake 5k parkrun on May 3, it was his third p.b. in just over a week.

Great Yarmouth 5 Miles (Race 1) & Parkrun

Just over a dozen members of Waveney Valley Athletic Club made the short journey over the county border to compete in race one of the popular Great Yarmouth Promenade 5 mile evening series.
Running very well in the mild, spring conditions, club secretary Richard Aukland, who has shown immense improvement over the last few months, recorded a big personal best time of 31:37. He finished 37th from a total of 257 runners.
Bill Kingaby was 73rd in 34:31 and was awarded second prize in the mens 60-69 age group while David Mower was a very creditable third in the same age group in 36:21 and 92nd overall. New member Colin Maxwell was 116th in 38:07, Vladimir Laptikhovsky 146th in a personal best 39:25 and Joe Mayne 149th in 39:31.
In her first 5 mile road race, Caren Elvin finished 161st in 39:58 with David Goosey just two seconds behind in 164th in 40:00. Paul Grant was 178th in 40:51, new member Peter Lawrence 187th in 41:44, Patricia Tuttle 210th in 43:51, Stuart Smith 212th in 43:54 and another new member Jane Hunt 243rd in 48:11.
The race was won by Kessingland college student Dominic Oliver, representing his first claim club City of Norwich A.C., in a time of 26:22.

East Anglian League, round 1, Norwich, 4 May 2014

The sun was shining on Sunday as Waveney Valley Athletic Club travelled to the Sportspark at the UEA, Norwich for round one of the East Anglian Athletics League. Waveney took a squad of 32 to compete against City of Norwich AC, Cambridge & Coleridge, West Norfolk, Gt Yarmouth & District AC and Ryston.

Hoping to build on a very solid debut season last year, Waveney face a difficult year, drawn against some larger athletic clubs. A squad of 32 travelled, although with no under 17’s available for the fixture, and very few seniors, they finished the day in 5th place overall with 212 points. The club faired much better in the individual categories, with the under 13 girls placed 4th and just 12 points from the 3rd placed Gt Yarmouth and the under 15 boys finishing 3rd with 61 points – the best on the day for Waveney.

Waveney took 9 under 11’s – Abeni Beckham, Maisie Elvin-Andrews, Grace Forster, Maddie Archbold and Brooke Oram for the girls and Joel Burgess, Theo Hudson, Vaughan Beckham and Jacob Bendall for the boys in the events of 80 metres, 600 metres, shot and long jump. This was the first meeting for the boys, and many PBs tumbled notably three for Joel Burgess with 12.6s in the 80m, 2:05s in the 600m and 3.29m in the Long Jump and also three for Abeni Beckham with 13.7s in the 80m, 2:10.4 in the 600m and 4.97m in the Shot Put. Maddie Archbold also put in a great leap of 3.07m in her first ever Long Jump, and Grace Forster another PB of 2:06s in the 600m.

In the girls under 13 category, Harriet Gooch, Hannah Mayne, Ellysia Bendall and Mia made the team and ended the day with 3rd place in the relay. Hannah continued her excellent winter form with wins in the 100m (14.0s) and Long Jump (PB 4.57m) and 2nd in the 200m (29.95s).Mia took another tenth off her PB in the 70mh with a 3rd place 14.1s and 3rd in the javelin with 15.02m with Harriet recording PBs to finish 3rd in both Shot Put (5.62m) and Discus (11.38m), and Ellysia recorded a put of 4.65m in the Shot in her first league appearance for Waveney.

The under 15 girls were represented by Harriet Lyman, Lily Collins and Lauren Oram with Harriet pleased to record a PB and 3rd place in the 800m with 2:51.3s. Harriet and Lily both finished 3rd in their respective 300m races in 50.5s and 56.4s respectively. Lauren recorded a 2nd place in the 1500m with a time of 6:26.8s.

A larger under 13 boys team saw Ethan Lee, Callum, Sam Stevens, Leo Joscelyne, and Rio Clements competing with PBs again tumbling all round. The teams best performance saw both Sam and Leo finishing 4th in their respective 800m races with times of 2:58.2s and 3:02.5s. Callum and Ethan also claimed 4th places and PBs in their 100m races with 15.1s and 15.8s, with Ethan also throwing well in Shot Put (4th with 4.24m) and Discus (4th 8.82m).

The under 15 boys were represented by Jake Block, Leon Cousins, Lewis Covill, Dylan Davies and Aidan Hewitt. Jake battling against the UK under 15 number 1 triple jumper achieved 3rd place with a jump of 9.71m in the TJ and 3rd in the 300m with 43.4s – a massive PB of over 3 second with a 4th place in the 200m with 28.2s another large PB. Lewis, performing as a second thrower behind Dylan won the Shot Put with a throw of 6.03m and 2nd place in the javelin with 9.92m in his first outing in the club vest in the league. Leon again impressed with jumps of 4.21m and 8.85m in the Long and Triple Jumps, with Aidan running a great first leg in the relay, and also winning his 300m race.

The Ladies were represented by Karen Archbold, Michaela Gooch, Frances Fairs, Vicki Fairs (and Caren Elvin in the relay) with Simon Bunting and Alan Fairs the compact Mens team. Karen recorded 5th in the 800m and 1500m with times of 2:51.9s and 5:47.8s, with Frances Fairs in her club debut performing very well especially the throws with 18.81m in the hammer (5th), 18.15m Discus (5th) and 7.62m Shot Put (4th) beating her mother Vicki who Put 12.76m in the Discus. Michaela recorded a PB in the Long Jump with 3.40m and a javelin throw of 13.10m for a 5th place finish. The ladies finished the day with some fun in the relay. Simon’s day ended early with an injury suffered in the 100m but still recording 5th places in the Shot Put and Javelin 7.12m and 20.0m with Alan reaching a PB in the Long Jump with 3.59m and a javelin throw of 23.64m.

Inter-Club Tournament, R1, Good Friday Race

Good Friday saw athletes from Waveney Valley AC, Bungay Black Dog RC, Gt Yarmouth & District AC and Framlingham Flyers take part in Round 1 of the inaugural Inter-Club Tournament between the 4 clubs. The tournament was designed to provide more competition for Junior athletes from 8 to 17, across the 4 disciplines of a road race, track & field, x country and sportshall. Bungay hosted and organised round 1 which took place on Gorleston sea-front on a blustery and wet Good Friday morning.

Undeterred by the weather, 84 young athletes, including 23 from Waveney, raced up and down the seafront, cheered on by parents and people out for a morning stroll. The U11s raced over a 2k course with the girls and boys setting off 10 minutes apart. The winning girl was Tilly Aldis from Fram Flyers in 9.42, with Abeni Beckham the 1st Waveney girl finishing 5th in 11.44 followed by Brooke Oram 11th 11.44, Libby Mayall 13th 11.52, Maisie Elvin-Andrews 17th 13.13, Maddie Archbold 19th 14.32 and Amy Catchpole 20th in 14.40 in her first outing in a Waveney vest. The winning boy  also from Framlingham was Alec Mackay in a time of 9.06, with Joel Burgess the first Waveney boy home in 5th place clocking 10.10, followed by Benjamin Cone 6th 10.12, Leo Joscelyne 8th 10.18, Finn Howes 9th 10.19, Oscar Taylor 13th 11.12, Daniel Goldspink 14th 11.29, Pierre Stohr 16th 11.56 and Vaughan Beckham 20th in 12.23.

The U13s raced over a 3.2k course and all set off together. The winning girl from GYDAC was Molly Bean in a time of 16.09 with Harriet Lyman coming 4th for Waveney in a time of 16.49 and Mia 10th in 18.43. Waveney claimed 1st and 2nd in the boys race with Jamie Besford 1st home in 14.10 followed by Tai Elvin-Andrews in 14.28. Callum was 8th in 16.15 followed by Harry Bernasconi in 16.45 with Sam Stevens 11th in 17.19.

The U15s and U17s raced over the full 5k parkrun course, with Lauren Oram winning the girls race for Waveney in a time of 26.47, with the boys race won by Samuel Grooms from Fram in 20.00 with Lewis Covill finishing 10th for Waveney in 34.51. Round 2 will be hosted by GYDAC on 11 May on the Wellesley Track in Gt Yarmouth.
